Russian Nikita Filippov won the silver medal in the ski mountaineering sprint, which took place today, February 19, at the XXV Winter Olympic Games in Milan / Cortina d'Ampezzo.
On the course in Bormio, Nikita was only behind of Oriol Cardona Coll (Spain), who became his country's second Olympic champion in winter sports and the first in ski mountaineering. Thibaut Anselme of France rounded out the top three.
Filippov confidently advanced to the final from second place, but things weren't easy in the final run.
After the climb, the Russian was only fifth, but after the first change, which he completed very quickly, he moved up to third.
On the stairs, despite a minor error of his own, he managed to capitalize on a more serious mistake by his rival and move into second place.
Filippov entered the descent in second place and successfully held his position. The women's event was won by world champion Marianne Fatton of Switzerland, who beat the competition's favorite, Emilie Harrop of France, in the final. Spain's Ana Alonso Rodriguez rounded out the top three.
