A large avalanche roughly D3 in size roared down from steep terrain above the Floria T-bar at the Flégère ski area at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, crossing multiple groomed runs and burying skiers, prompting a major emergency response that was still unfolding late in the day. The slide released from rocky slopes above the lift and swept across at least two pistes, according to information from a ski patroller on scene and preliminary witness accounts. Video filmed from near the top of the mountain shows the avalanche accelerating downslope before pouring onto open ski runs below.

Rescuers immediately launched a large-scale search effort after reports that people on the pistes were caught in the debris. Dozens of ski patrollers, along with volunteers and other responders, formed probe lines across the avalanche field Tuesday afternoon, systematically searching for potential burial victims.
Flégère ski patrol has confirmed that 3 people were injured but no one was killed. The avalanche occurred inside the resort’s managed terrain—an uncommon but serious scenario that can happen during unstable snow conditions, particularly when slides release from steep, rocky start zones above groomed runs. At this time, avalanche conditions are exceptionally dangerous across the Alps and 100 people have been killed in avalanches this season already.
Flégère is part of the Brévent–Flégère ski domain overlooking the Chamonix Valley, an area known for steep alpine terrain and exposure to natural avalanche paths. Emergency teams continued working into the afternoon as helicopters, rescue personnel, and piste services concentrated in the area. Authorities are expected to release more information as search operations progress and conditions allow a clearer assessment of the scene.
